I spoke at NaraJALT’s conference about digital game based learning…

Reading time: 2 minutes

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks to say in the least. I wasn’t too concerned about it until I realized I was stewing in low grade stress the entire time. But it’s all done now and my brothers are also visiting from Germany and Canada so now our dog is overloaded with affection and attention.

At NaraJALT I chose to speak about digital game based learning. It’s something that I enjoy in my own practice as well as feel strongly about in terms of pedagogical standards.

I honestly went in with low expectations as to how well I would do as well as what I would get out of it, only because I tend to err on the side of disappointment, but even so, the conference was excellent. From digital texts for increased accessibility, inclusion, cross-cultural sensitivities and general pedagogical hot topics were extremely insightful and informative. I wish I had time to do a demo, but that’s for another day, I suppose. It was honestly a milestone achievement for me to be able to speak there.

I think though, since I spoke at length about gamification, I’m afraid that, that will become my shtick. A specialization that I might not necessarily want to specialize in. I thought long and hard about it, but currently, I’m finding it hard to really jump on to something.

Anyway, in other news, I finally set up my digital garden, though its a bit chaotic and annoyingly set up right now. I’m also considering doing reviews for books and learning apps here.

Speaking of reviews, I’ve been considering consolidating some of the review work I do for k-dramas out on Tumblr... but I’m not sure how well that would mesh with the current set up so for now, I think I’m just going to add it as a link.

Anyway, more things to follow soon. When I don’t feel so drained.
